Position Summary Information
Position Purpose
This position is charged with all aspects of teaching the laboratories associated with the introductory physics sequence for scientists and engineers (Physics 31-33) and/or the labs associated with the introductory physics sequence for life-sciences majors (Physics 11-13). The instructor may also teach lecture courses, as the need arises. In a typical academic year, the senior lab instructor will teach 15-16 lab sections (or the unit equivalent) during fall, winter and spring quarters. Any variation outside of this range would need to be discussed with the Chair and Office of the Dean.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Teach laboratory courses and others, as assigned.

Demonstrate a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively to undergraduates.

Develop syllabus, laboratory exercises, assignments and course schedule before course begins.

Write and/or edit laboratory instructions and manuals, as needed.

Select course materials and order books and manuals.

Appear on time and participate fully in scheduled class meetings.

Assign and submit course grades that are accurate, fair and an appropriate assessment of student performance.

Provide timely feedback to students.

Post and hold regular office hours at times reasonably convenient for students.

Administer all required course evaluations.

Develop instructional materials in consultation with department faculty.

Help design and construct set-ups for new experiments.

Instruct students on appropriate and safe use of equipment.

Assist students with graphing programs.

2. Hire, train and supervise teaching assistants.

3. Purchase, repair and maintain laboratory equipment (with assistance, as needed).

4. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Terminal degree in physics or closely related field required

Minimum of three to five years experience teaching undergraduate laboratories in a higher-education environment

Salary Information $47,345.25-$55,024.50
